Hundreds of Artex AI hacking tools found publicly exposed to the web

Security researchers found more than 800 copies of Artex, a Chinese-made open-source AI hacking tool, sitting publicly exposed on the internet with no password needed to reach them. Artex is an autonomous penetration-testing system built from AI agents that can probe networks for weaknesses, and Microsoft has described it as able to run attacks from reconnaissance through data theft with little human help. Cybersecurity firm Censys spotted the exposed deployments, which also reveal attack implants used to hold access inside victim networks. Artex has already been linked to real attacks, including a September campaign against South Korea's finance industry and an October breach at IT support firm ConnectWise that let hackers spy on thousands of organizations. The episode shows how a simple misconfiguration can hand powerful tools to anyone who finds them.
