Meet Fu Shuang and Ping Ping: New giant pandas in Atlanta

Two six-year-old giant pandas, Fu Shuang and Ping Ping, made their public debut at Zoo Atlanta on November 6, 2026, after arriving in late September and spending their first weeks in quarantine while settling into their new home. Crowds gathered to see the pair, whose names carry meaning: Fu Shuang means double happiness, a wish for mutually beneficial cooperation between China and the United States, while Ping Ping means peace. Giant pandas have symbolized the relationship between the two countries since Beijing sent a pair to Washington's National Zoo in 1972. Zoo Atlanta is now one of only three zoos in the United States with giant pandas, alongside San Diego and the National Zoo.
